This impressive Russian Orthodox bronze devotional cross represents a fine example of religious metalwork produced during the Imperial Russian period. Cast in bronze and richly decorated in high relief, the cross was intended to serve as a portable expression of faith, accompanying its owner during pilgrimage, military service, travel, or daily devotional practice.
The central field depicts the Crucifixion of Christ, surrounded by traditional Church Slavonic inscriptions and sacred figures associated with the Passion narrative. Above the crucified Christ appears a detailed religious scene beneath a pair of angelic finial elements, while the side panels feature additional saints and biblical figures rendered in the distinctive style associated with Russian Orthodox iconography.
