Description

Historical Context & Origin

Region: Ancient Egypt
Material: Blue–green glazed faience
Period: Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, c. 664–30 BCE

Description

This small but powerful ancient Egyptian faience amulet depicts a falcon-headed deity, most likely representing Horus, the divine protector, sky god, and symbol of kingship. The figure stands frontally with defined posture, characteristic back pillar, and pierced suspension hole, allowing it to have originally been worn as a protective personal charm.

The surface retains beautiful shades of turquoise and blue-green glaze with earthen deposits and mineral adherence from burial, giving it the desirable ancient surface character collectors value. Despite its miniature scale, the amulet preserves readable anatomical details including the falcon beak profile, body contouring, and squared base.

Amulets such as this were carried by the living and placed with the dead to invoke protection, strength, divine support, and rebirth.
